4th of July celebrated by the Alumni of the USG Programs in Moldova

On the 4th of July 2010, the United States celebrated the 234th anniversary of Independence. In Moldova the Independence Day took place in the Golf Club and was, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce, Alumni Resource Center, Alumni Board partners of the event, with the support of the US Embassy. The event had a genuine American style and gathered almost 700 people, among which FLEX, IREX, Open World Alumni, Peace Corps Volunteers and a lot of other guests.

The celebration started at 3.00 pm. Each one could serve beverages, snacks, have the American Flag drawn on the cheek, make a photo with the Statue of Liberty, lie on the green grass and listen to music. In an hour, his Excellency Ambassador of United States of America Asif J. Chaudhry held his congratulatory speech. Daniela Munca, the President of the Alumni Board also welcomed all the Alumni present at this celebration and emphasized the importance of the USG Alumni active involvement, especially upon their return. After the hymn of USA the event was declared officially opened and the tastiest part followed. The picnic of American Style Food began. Lots of hamburgers, hot dogs and salads were served.

As part of the celebration a Charity Lottery for children with leukemia was organized. The festivity ended with an extraordinary performance of the Moldavian rock band "Snails". They sang a lot of American music, contributing a lot to the American Style of the party.

The Independence Day Party was an amazing opportunity for the Open World alumni to meet and recall their American experience. Among the 08' Alumni who attended the event were: Natalia Visanu, Dorina Roman, Dondiuc Iurie accompanied by his 2 daughters, Irina Moldovanu and Tatiana Zatic. During an informal discussion with Mircea Esanu ('09 OW Alumnus) we found out about his new job position at UNDP- Combating Torture Project Manager. Emilia Bobeica told about her ongoing project at the SorTV broadcasting station. Marina Lita, Tatiana Basiul, Matasaru Grigorie, Jelauc Inga and Obreja Efim accompanied by his wife also visited the event.

Open World facilitators Victoria Vorosciuc, Alexandra Sian and Olesea Fortuna were among the participants of the Independence Day celebration as well.

It was a very well organized event that reunited people who lived an American experience and Native Americans, in this why becoming a unique communication environment and a pleasant get together.
