This was the main goal of the Summer Leadership Academy 2012, a unique intensive month-long learning experience held at American Language Center.

The Summer Leadership Academy 2012 was designed for young leaders and thinkers who are committed to strengthening their own leadership and social skills. It was a special course designed by the ALC teachers in collaboration with American Councils Moldova staff to combine academics and practice, language teaching and life long learning, traditional teaching methodology and modern teaching techniques.

The general aims of the Academy were to develop the following skills:

  • Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship
  • Practical leadership skills
  • Social and civic competences
  • Cultural awareness and expression
  • Digital competence
  • Public Speaking skills

In addition to the academic course, the teenagers participated in team building games being able to take initiatives which are the best challenges focused on problem solving and creative thinking. In this way, the students learned not only to speak fluently and accurately in English, but also developed their key competences necessary for personal fulfillment and development, active citizenship, social involvement and employment. By the end of the course the students discovered what leadership means: critical thinking, creativity, initiative, problem-solving, risk assessment, decision-taking, and constructive management.
